Things to do in Columbia SC for the Fourth of July Celebration
Lake Murray Fourth of July Celebration
The 23rd Fourth of July Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011. This is the largest Fourth of July Celebration in South Carolina. The boat parade will start between 12:30-1pm with the Parade assembly at Bomb Island and move toward the Lake Murray Dam. It will pass the Lexington Park Site and make the half circle around the Towers and then pass the Irmo Park Site. After which time, the boats will pass the Leader Boat, the Southern Patriot, for judging and photos. The best spots to view the parade is from one of the Parks sites on the dam. The fireworks will launch at dusk (approximately 9:10pm) from Dreher Island and Spence Island. The best viewing spots for the shows will be both parks at the Lake Murray Dam and Dreher Island State.

Lexington County Peach Festival, Gilbert South Carolina
The 53rd annual Peach Festival will be held on Monday, July 4, 2011 in Gilbert South Carolina. The parade will begin at 9:30am and begins at the corner of Crosson and Hampton Streets. It will turn right onto Main Street and continue just past Hayes Street where it will turn left onto an Access Road. This festival is one of the oldest and most successful in our state. Over the years, it has allowed our community club to raise monies for countless community projects, the most significant being the total construction of our Gilbert Community Park. Our park is open to all regardless of race, color, or creed. It is a place of great beauty and quiet contemplation. Families enjoy outings under the picnic shelters. Children play on the playground. Walkers hike the hills and curving paths. On most Easter Sundays, the community churches meet together in the park for the Community Sunrise Service. Each year, hundreds and hundreds of folks visit and enjoy our park. Other projects include donations to our schools, our fire department, our town library, Girl’s State, and Festival Scholarships.

Columbia South Carolina Carolina Carillon Holiday Parade
The 57th annual Carolina Carillon Parade will be held beginning at 9:45am on December 4, 2010. The theme of this year’s parade is “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. The parade will begin at the corner of Gervais & Bull Streets and proceed down Gervais Street and end at Park Street. The performance area will be in front of the Capital. There are nearly 100 entries in this year’s parade including High School drill teams and marching bands, floats, clowns, live animals, and of course, Santa Claus. The Grand Marshall of the Parade is the University of South Carolina’s 2010 National Championship Baseball Team. The fourth annual “Jingle All The Way 5K” begins at 9:45 to kick off the Parade. WIS-TV will telecast the parade beginning at 10am from their broadcasting area at the Corner of Main and Gervais.

Cayce West Columbia South Carolina Parade of Lights
The Cayce West Columbia Parade of Lights will be held at 5:30 pm on December 5, 2010, and over 20,000 observers are expected to watch this spectacular parade of lights. This is the area’s only “night parade”. Lighted fire trucks and floats along with marching bands, clowns, animals and live music all will be a part of the parade. There are over 100 entries in this year’s parade including, of course, Santa Clause. The parade route will be along 12th Street in West Columbia Cayce.
The Cayce South Carolina and West Columbia South Carolina communities are located in Lexington County, the West Metro suburban area of Greater Columbia. They are located on the west side of the Congaree River and south of the Saluda River. The City of Cayce is located just across the Congaree River from downtown Columbia accessed by the Blossom Street bridge. West Columbia is also across the river from downtown Columbia accessed by the Gervais Street bridge. The beautiful Riverwalk along the Congaree River offers 1.5 miles overs overlooks of the Congaree River.

Vista Lights Columbia South Carolina
Celebrating its 25 year, the Vista Lights returns November 18, 2010, from 5-10pm. All business will be open during this evening to showcase their wares. There will be a tree lightening cermony @ 7pm at the intersection of Gervais and Lincoln Streets. There will be Carollers and the entire vista will be ablaze in lights. This is the kickoff of the Holiday Season in Columbia South Carolina.
Park free for the event is in the parking decks at the State Museum with transportation to and from the museum in horse drawn carriage rides.
The Vista is home to over 45 restaurants and bars, 60 artists’ gallaries, and a diverse mixture of businesses and services.
The Congaree Vista is a 1200 acre district running from the business towards the Congaree River which features of number of renovated historic buildings.
Lights Before Christmas Riverbanks Zoo Columbia South Carolina
The Lights Before Christmas celebration begins November 19 and runs through January 2, 2011 each night 6-9pm. While a White Christmas is not a usual weather event in Columbia South Carolina, it snows each night at th
e zoo during the Lights Before Christmas celebration. This is the 23rd year that the Lights Before Christmas has been held. There are almost one million lights included in this display, incuding 360 animals crafted in light. The Event is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. Stop by the Holiday Shop and have your picture taken with Santa Claus, roast marshmellows at the Jingle Bell Bon Fire, or just watch in awe as the Christmas Lights dance to the music at the Music in Motion Lights Spectacular.
