Fort Jackson SC
Ft. Jackson, named after Andrew Jackson, is the largest training base in the United States. It encompasses over 52,000 acres and lies within an easy 15 minute bus ride to downtown Columbia. Camp Jackson was established in 1917 to train soldiers for World War I. It was established on 1200 acres donated by the citizens of Columbia. This began the long standing tradition of inclusiveness, respect, and cooperation between Ft. Jackson and the City of Columbia. Ft. Jackson was incorporated into the City of Columbia in 1968.
